I do alot of my tracking right next to my computer. The problem being obvious, what are some suggestions? I really can't move it away from me, I was thinking about building a casing around it. If that's a good idea what kind of material should i use? Thanks

OK,

Two choices;

1; Use the search function on "Computer Isolation Box" or something similar.

2; On the index page for this "Studio Building" forum, scroll down to the bottom of the page. The little window with "show topics for last day" (something like that), change it to 60 days and hit "GO". Again down the RH bottom of the page you will see page numbers 1, 2, 3, etc., etc................as at the time I am typing this, go to page 4, there is a thread by Larrye at the top of the page, then the last thread on that page is by Cordura.........both may answer your questions.

:cool:

just kidding

Go analog;) Gotta have some fun here once in awhile! But I have heard about watercooled cases. see this http://arstechnica.infopop.net And I am detailing my noiseproof case for three computers right now. I'll post shop drawings as soon as I
finish.

I stuck my computer in the nearest closet and ran the cables under the door. Cheap and easy! This eliminated most of the noise. Of course, this means your desk has to be near the closet...

Turn the darn thing off, unless if you have a toy program, You dont have to have it on.

You could try a bit of creative decoupling...

I record on an Akai dps16 which is a hard drive all in one recorder/mixer etc but essentially a computer dedicated to recording. It suffered from noisy fan and drive just like any other computer. I sorted the fan by unscrewing it from its mountings and using self-adhesive felt and bathroom sealant to reattach it in the same place. Then used the felt to decouple the box from the base wherever it touched. Plus installed a Seagate v.quiet drive. Whole thing took about twenty minutes and the thing is now virtually silent! I'm sure there are similar options open to a regular computer. HTH
