I am about to take the plunge into the wonderful world of home recording and before I drop a grand or two, I was hoping for some opinions from the experts.

I want to do some simple recording of guitar, bass and a drum machine, all played by me. After doing quite a bit of reading, I am tossed up between the Tascam US-428 and ST Audio DSP2000. Would either one of these systems be right for my needs or should I look elsewhere. Any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You will need to give us a little more info..

What equipment do you already own?

What are your computer specs?

Exactly how much money do you plan on spending?

What kind of music are you creating?

How many instruments do you want to record at the same time?

What program do you want to use?

:)

Thanks. It looks like a great board and I have learned a lot already. Hopefully soon I will be able to give back some insight myself.

I own a guitar, bass and drum machine. Both the guitar and bass amps have direct outs.

The PC isnt bought yet but Im looking at something like a P4 1.8 or 2Ghz, 512MB. 80GB data drive, 10 GB system disk. It will be dedicated to recording but will be networked.

Money isnt really that much of an issue for what I am planning on doing. The music is metal and I only need to record one of the instruments at a time while playing back 2 or 3 tracks.

I dont care which program I use, I am open to any suggestions.
