It's looking like the ever-so-famous RNC is out of my price range until next year...

I PROMISE I will stay away from the Alesis 3630, even though it's SOOOOO cheap....!

What are your thoughts on the Behringer compressors?
Specifically the Autocom Pro MDX-1400 and the Composer Pro MDX-2100 and 2200?

thanks guys
jimmy

How can it be out of your price range -- most places sell the 3630 for basically the same price as an RNC..........?!??!

The RNC is $175 US at Mercenary..............

I have no problems with my mdx1400, and my next compressor will be an mdx2600, which is about 40% less than the RNC and has twice as many discrete channels. Many people here recommend the RNC though, so I would consider that.

Sorry Blue Bear, I do most of my gear purchasing from the wide world of eBay... I haven't found a good deal on a RNC.

But I did just get two MDX-1400's...

That's four channels of compression capability!

Better than none, right?

No... IMO, you're better off with no compressor than using a poor compressor!

But to start off with, I'm sure you'd be able to make *some* use of the Behringer stuff....

With the MDX 1400's I can get SOME good stuff, right?

Bear, I have a SMALL SMALL setup, and I am just trying to learn.
I'll upgrade as I get the ability and money...

But am I wasting my time?

It compresses, it gates, it limits.... good is a relative word... I would say decent for what you do: homerecording.

The RNC is a very good unit, Im currently using a dbx163 in the insert on my vocal preamp. and a dbx 118 in my rack. the 118 is good but the RNC is said to do its job without any artifacts.

I like my Composer Pro for stuff like toms and backup vocals. For the $100 I paid I think it's great for my applications. I do have an RNC and a JoeMeek for vocals, bass, bass drum, snare, whatever else though, so take it fwiw.
