Hi.. can anyone recommend a rack compressor for dance music? Mostly for the TR-909 kick drum, but I will also use it for bass guitar patches when needed.

Thanks! - Billy

Drum machines & certain drum-synth patches are notorious for producing unwanted noise factors (such as that annoying hisssssss!) that accompanies the signal. Incorporating the gates of a comp provides some control in this area.
My small arsenal of dynamic processors in my rack are 2-RNC's, Beh's AutoComm and Composer Pro, DBX and the WORLD FAMOUS :p Alesis 3630!! :D
I use a Boss Dr Groove Dr202 "canned drummer". The unit's 808 and 909 patterns and patches produce more than thier share of noise. I found some success running the unit thru the 3630 (the ONLY useful purpose this joint has to offer) using it's gates to clip the "tail" of cyms and snares, but for overall sig proc'ing, the RNC afforded transparent levelling and control.

I'm still learning about all things recording therefore FWIW, my post is simply an opinion based on the perf's my mini-arsenal of comps provided. I do recommend that you strongly consider adding the RNC to your repertoire as the unit is the "Man's MAN" and "King of all Trades" in all areas of dynamic control and @ a poor-man's budget.

Thank you! I bought two RNC's and I'll let you know how it goes. Great price too!
