Compressor for Shureksm27?

Whats a good compressor or a good preamp for my shureksm27?
right now im using the mackie 1402vlzpro as the preamp and my emu 1212m as the soundcard...and cooleditpro for my recording program...
Would a compressor help? or a better preamp? thankss

I like the RNC ... but I don't think it's a match at all with the ksm-27.

In fact, I've noticed that it doesn't sound good on any mic who's model name begins with a "K."

The dbx comps, on the other hand, all sound wonderful with Shures, but crap on just about anything else. It's kinda' weird.

Would it help to do what? A compressor will help to even out the sound by reducing the dynamic range, if that's what you're after.

If you're getting enough signal into CoolEdit Pro, have you tried the software compressor that comes with it? If so, can you describe what it is not doing for you?

I found my KSM27s to be boring and bland, though technically competent. I would look for anything you could find to make them sound interesting.

Really I have at times found my ksm27 more to my liking than my 1969 U87. Drum overheads, sax works well. Application

Yeah, that could be. Never had any U87s around

Even so this isn't supposed to be a application-specific mic; at that price point I'm pretty Shure it was intended to be an all-'rounder. Your average bloke who buys a $300 LDC expects it to be decent on vocals. It bored me there, and was soft and fuzzy on acoustic guitar.

I'm not down on Shure or anything. I like my KSM44 well enough (which replaced my pair of 27s), and I just picked up a third KSM141.

Ah heck, I love my AT3060. Why don't I just admit I'm addicted to audio crack cocaine? There, I just did. I feel better already

I think with mic's some are a little more finicky than others. my ksm27 works well on vocals the few times I have used it for that application. Probably depends on the singer and the same with acoustic guitar. You might find with the ksm27 you have to play around and see what guitar it will work on or what type of singer. I have only really used it for tracks mentioned but I think its a very nice mic.
