compressor across the drums?

If I have recorded 8 tracks of drums, then run them all through buss 1 & 2 panned hard left and right on the return channels, will the kick and snare still be panned in the centre or will the come back panned hard left and right equally?

Try it.

They should be panned however the individual channels where prior to bussing. If the kick was in the center on channel one then routed to buss 1 and 2 and buss 1 is hard left and buss 2 is hard right the kick will be centered in the stereo image of buss 1 and 2.
