Quick question,

I do not have a patch bay and all my outs are going

into SUM ona dangerous music D-box.

A friend of mine sold me

a Neve Portico stereo compressor.

All I have is 2 BAE 1073's for mic pre's Routed to Stereo 1&2 on

my analog in's

If I hook the compressor to the Pre's, that means that when

I am recording with the pre's the compressor has to be engaged.

How many of you track with compression?

At last count, 227 of us. ;)

Seriously, I regularly track vocals with compression, other instruments depend on who's playing what why.

If you're really trying to ask if it's OK to track with compression, the answer is, if you know what you're doing, yes, there's no point in waiting. If you're not sure, you might want to wait until mixing when you can always try something and undo it if it doesn't work out.

I don't like hamming it unless it's something like screaming vocals or something really dynamic like that. Unless you know what you want and how to get there with the compressor, I wouldn't do it, cuz otherwise you're stuck with it.

Please post your question only once. No need to repeat it in multiple forums. Same with your other question. I deleted all your duplicates.

Thanks.
