I'm about to start a recording project for which I've been writing for just over a year.....it will be done in 16 bit on a dp01 fxcd....I'm using an ART MPA Gold microphone pre amp along with a couple of AKG condensers and a Beyer m-500 vocal mic....the recording will be "folk" and will include acoustic guitars, vocals, bass (both electric and stand up), and a bit of electric guitar. I'm considering the need for compression and have been looking at a dbx 166xl....just wondering how it might be connected....should I treat it as an external effect and use it when doing final mix, or should I be recording a compressed signal from the start - especially with vocals and bass.....
