compress drum overheads

I compress the over heads (nt4 mic) on mix down, but would like to do so when recording... What I am trying to do is bring the snair to the same level as the crash (or close to it), but to do this it takes a lot of compression... Can anyone give me a good starting point for the settings they seem to go with when doing this????

If you mean bring the snare down in volume to the rest of the kit, an RNC is plenty fast enough. It's a very powerfull snare-envelope controler on kit mics.
