Complicated Beats

Less is more in my opinion.Does the simplicity in mainstream rap the reason its not respected in here?Its not all hip hop on the radio thats garbage.Somebody is buying it.When i was younger the same things were said about the same era of hip hop that we hold sacred as the golden era.Its just different points of view.I have many influences but I find that at times the simplest patterns get the best responses.Isnt that why we make music besides for our own enjoyment?

First off, I resent the stereo-treatment... I am a member here.. and I did not personally say "simplicity sucks".. So case closed on that one.. The forum, as whole, hasn't chimed in.. How about starting a poll, before saying such things.. k?

Next, I will say this...

You do realize that simplicity can be reinterpreted a bagdeillion times, right?

Here are two off the top of my head, of what simplistic beats could be:

1. A beat that sounds simple...
2. A beat that was simple to make...

Pick an example song, and we'll talk..

Don't tell me Just Blaze, Kanye West, 9th Wonder, blah blah etc. make "simplistic" beats (overall).... I don't agree..

In my opinion, simplistic beats, meaning one's that don't have a lot of voices used, and are mainly percussion driven (ex. Grindin'), showcase the artist more. It makes it puts their vocals out front. It just things going in cycles. Hip hop in the 80's had less music, and more percussion. Sometime I have to be aware of how much music I put in a track when I'm making something for someone to get on. I may overdo it to the point that it sounds hot to listen to, but there's no audio room for someone to get on it.

I can plainly say that I don't understand what you are getting at... You don't have to clarify..But if you'd like further input from me (and I wouldn't be insulted if you told me to shut up, at this point), please do clarify, further....

Exactly Murdock. There's nothing wrong with simplicity as long as the simple parts are in the right places. I've heard some beats with basic chord structure but they were tight. I have nothing against simplicity.

Thats what I've been thinking.Thats why I have debated on just making beats for listening versus beats to rhyme on.

Me personally, I am a "closet emcee".. I don't rap for anyone (anymore).. but, as I'm making the beat, I hear the rhymes in my head (I know it's tight if I have to bust outloud)....

I believe tracks/songs are like living things.. They are not so much created, as they are grown.. yeah yeah.. dorky .. whatever..

point being.. The track goes in the direction it wants to.. I don't wanna force it... Simple is cool.. Complicated is cool.. I do just do me..

As far as catering to the music market.. I don't distinquish simple or not, when I'm selecting "for release"... I have to agree with what Doc is saying up there.. He is spot on this...

Before i started messing with vocals, i used to make all my beats for listening pleasure. They would be long and change alot. I would have like 5 beats in one beat! When i started messing with recording/mixing vocals, my beats got a lot simpler because it's hard to mix in the vocals when the instruments are hogging center stage. I would love to hear some beats just for listening pleasure. I'm down wit dat.
