comp and pre

few questions here.I currently have an alesis 3630 comp/limitor gate Of course this is the only compressor i have ever used.Are there other medium prices compressors out there that would do a much better job? and 2ndly i have a behri mixer would a m-audio dmp-3 be an upgrade foir me vs using the pre's on my mixer and what type of difference can i expect? thanks guys

I don't know about the difference between the behringers, but I just got a DMP-3, upgrading from the pres on a Fostex VF08, and it has made a big difference because everything is much cleaner and crisper. I tend to record songs with a lot of tracks, so my recordings are way better overall. However, if your recordings have only a few tracks, you might not really notice a huge improvement.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with an RNC compressor for the price. They are extremely uncolored, and can really be pushed and still be musical.

If you're looking for a really outstanding mid-priced pre and compressor, the Safesound P-1 is the way to go.
