Anyone have any advice on how to promote short (45 sec-60 sec) comedy bits?

The type of stuff I am thinking about is the sort of stuff you might hear on radio stations like funny fake commercials or other funny short stuff like fake call-in talk shows, etc.

Any help appreciated.

Used to promote the stuff at www.cdbaby.com/phone/ and had good luck going directly to morning DJs and others who play this kind of thing. That will get your stuff out to a ton of people quickly.

Do you have a web site? That's always a great idea. We put up www.prankcalls.net to promote this disc and did very well with it.

Hi David,

Thank you for your advice.

What was your plan of attack? It sounds like you made a whole CD worth of bits and then sold the entire CD to stations to use as they wished. Is that correct?

The times I have heard comedy bits played on the radio, they were played during the morning “Zoo Crew” type shows.

Did you market specifically to these people?

I do have a website but it only showcases my illustration work at this point. I do need to update it with my radio commercial and comedy bit information. I am actually thinking that I will constriuct a whole different for my audio stuff.

Actually, we had a consumer CD, so we just gave promo copies to the media.

Are you looking to sell the bits? That's not going to be easy.

I would suggest using them to sell other things, such as live shows, if you have that option.

Hi David,

Yes, I was hoping to sell the bits.

Perhaps it’ll be a better idea to record a CD of the bits and then distribute that free to radio stations and then listen for airplay. And then just use the airplay as a credential when pitching my services as a producer of radio commercials. Sort of a “They use my work on wkrp, wzxr, etc.” “Have you ever heard the such and such bit? That’s one of mine.”

Thanks again for your valuable advice.
