Combine Tascam's

Me and my friends are playing in this band for like one month.

The funny thing is I own a 414mkII, the bassplayer a Porta-02-MKII and the guitarist a MF-P01.

Is there anyway you can connect (combine, match, couple, I don't know the proper english word for it) the three machines?

I know I'm a newbie here, and I don't want to sound like a complete dumbass, but I read somewhere that Queens of The Stoneage had done something like that with two 8 tracks.
 
synchronizing

i've never tried but i was looking at the owner's manual for my tascam 424 mk3. wouldn't you have to use a midi-tape synchronizer for that? maybe not. don't listen to me.
 
You want to sync the three machines. Not really. First of all, I don't believe these units have a sync controll input. And if they do, then you need a sync box like a JL Cooper or the Tascam unit. Then you'd have to stripe one track of each machine with SMPTE time code so you lose a track on each machine. Then pray that they'll chase and lock.

just an idea,

Say your recording drums first, Send the drum signal to all 3 machines and press record and then after that record the tracks individually.


I think that if you were really patient, and careful you might be able to do this.
 
A myth persisted for many years that "London Calling" by the Clash was recorded on two early Tascam 4 tracks linked together. Not true of course, but it can be done though I think.

Flog the three 4 tracks and buy an 8 track.
 
Without a built-in mechanism to keep the motors in sync across multiple machines, this is not possible... and those early 4-tracks would not have included any form of machine sync - would have driven the cost through the roof!

Syncing analog to a computer or hardware sequencer is a no-brainer, since the sequencer can easily be controlled via the analog unit's slightly variable motor speed, but keeping two slightly-variable motor speeds in sync between two "budget" analog machines is a completely different story..............!

I guess it just isn't possible, but what the heck!

I can bounce tracks if I want to, I think if you work sincere
you don't lose that much of the signal.......

I just wanted to know if I could do something with the 3 machines. I guess not.
 
It would be best to bounce to CD, or at the least DAT, and then back to the four-track.
