hey y'all,

so i work at a college radio station, and our group shares a wall with the student life and administrative offices. as you can imagine, we are a pretty loud bunch, and our neighbors are not. I have been looking in to some sound proofing solutions for the shared wall, however im pretty limited on what i can do because its a very thin wall and can not support much. Im thinking either stapling some MLV to it or some of Audimute's Peacemaker Soundproof Barrier.

i have heard mixed reviews on both, but i dont need to completely block out the sound, just severely reduce the transmission through the wall. I was also thinking of getting some sound absorbing blankest and hanging them against the wall, however that would be really heavy and i probably couldnt get approval from the administration to tear the ceiling up and instal hangers.

any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

thanks,
Bishop

How about building another wall on your side of the existing wall, stud frame with 2 layers of mdf leave an air gap of a few inches and put some rock wool in between the stud frame.

Alan.

Bishop,

Add a layer of drywall/gypsum board.. Thick, fire-rated stuff. You should see an improvement of about 5dB, which is often perceptible as 'half-as-loud'. MLV will get you there with about 2-3 layers, but ONE layer of that silly stuff is 10 times the cost of drywall, so therefore a very foolish way to add mass. Audimuts is the same.

Mass and Seal is what you need. That's all. There is no silver bullet, or sharpened stake yet invented.

Can you add a layer of drywall to the party wall?
Cheers,
John
