ooops jcmm... just missed ya

thats really awsome to hear!... man we had a blast doing it.
thanks for your ears on this sat. afternoon
take care!

This is just a sweet mix.

It's almost "surreal" to hear Sluice singing such a different style. :p

and that acoustic frickin' rocks!! I'm sorry, but that is one of the best acoustic sounds I've heard anywhere,... professional or otherwise. It' so full (especially during the solo).

I have some "critiques", but most are just personal taste. Over-all this is just an amazing tune. It makes me want, once again, to just give up and give my Taylor away....... anyone want it...? mixmkr?

:p

Wow. Nice job boys. Excellent job on the collab. I was really impressed with every aspect of this tune.

The guitars sounded great. Now I have a benchmark and a reference for mixing in acoustic guitars.

Where did the drum sounds come from? Very nice. A bit static, but the sounds were awesome.

The vocals were top notch. Sluice, your voice sounds a bit like the dude from Pychedelic Furs. Very fitting to the music.

The only other things might be to add a few pauses. Like at 1:16 or so where everythng stops but the drum track. Maybe stop everything and then bring it all in at once instead of a slow chord. I did an edit there in Cool Edi Pro and it made a nice subtle difference. Maybe something similar at 2:10. Pause everything briefly except the vocal and then it all comes back in with the lead acoustic line. Just a thought. That outro kicked ass. A very nice denumount or however you spell it. Oh.. which brings up another point.... I had my mp3 player on repeat and when the tune ended and started over, it sounded killer. Check it out and see if it's something worth incorporating into the tune somewhere.

What a J O B

Man this is some of the greatest work I have ever heard. Sluice I have been following Marcomb since we were kneehigh to a grasshopper, from Plucking a couple of strings to setting guitars on fire, with blazing speed and laser precision. But I have never heard vocals that contrast so much with his style that they go full circle to in fact compliment every note. Its nice to hear a fresh style, what the hell do you call this folkalternamelodic stand in line we got a new style, rock. This is truly a lead to be followed. When I heard there was a collaboration in the works I knew my ears would be blessed. As far as Jeff goes, I dont need to tell him what I think of his abilities. The rest of you are in for a treat.

hahaha....I like that! I remember smashing my first guitar ($13) when it wasn't good enough anymore. :D

:) yes .. Sluice really shows his throat talents on this one. Awww... SHuckks... ya think the acoustic sounds good :) Thanks for the complement. I still have your song everyday.. i really like that progression. Please.. dont be discouraged by someone who has a few chops. when I throw phenominal guitartist on in my cd player.. I really listen hard to see what they are doing and I learn-- thats what life is all about ;)
Keep up your excellent writing style and youll shine!

JR#97

Thanks Jr ... the drum sounds are from my Triton board. As always I dont spend alot of time with the drums sounds...as you can hear.. mostly because I dont spend alot of time learning the rigors of drum programming. Sluice is really good at that, so hes going to spice up the song a tad by adding his expertise. Im going to ask him some tricks hes using, too :) Thanks for your suggestions also.. we'll look into them.

dinkus140

my good friend/guitar tech/movie buff/fire guru. :) Hey ... you should tell them the time when you put too much butane on the guitar and you used the river as a cooling nest. man... i remember the days when the grasshoper was so big :) hehe ... thanks for stopping in man..

sluice

im really getting back to my roots with this next project.... boy.. you'll really be able to let loose on this next one. I am letting loose also :) It will be very dynamic. Im spending a little more time on it , so I can make the best mix Ive ever did. and there will be no more track bleeding. what will the final mix sound like... man id like a time machine :)

participant

Thanks for the bump :)

boydrj

Yes... vibe was my initial goal on this one. Sluice added the butter :) Thanks for the insight!

B.SABBATH

:D did it sound that bad? :( :)

Guernica

Thanks G... your one cool dude! I'll bet your longingly looking at a Triton advertisment right now :)

muzeman

as always thats for checking out what I put up here!
sluice really did add icing on this...
I recorded through Sonar/stereo mc012s/mackie pres/ delta 1010 ....Im using my PS5 monitors alot more now, so my mixes are improving a little. Sluice has an almost identical setup, so a collaboration is gravy. I save as a cakewalk bundle and he downloads the mix from me without a bit out of place. file size was 391 Mb so a high speed connection is a must
we are recording @ 24/48000 ... it was fun!
Thanks again man

i think it was said best earlier - this is a world class piece of music.

the recording is simply mind blowing...

so J did all of the music/production, and Sluice just did the melody/vocal track?

what was the chain on the acoustic guitar? including the guitar of course...sounds breathtaking.

Hey wes

your comments are humbling.
thats really cool to post such great feedback. thanks alot for that
yes.. i wrote the song and recorded it and then passed it on to Sluice and he added his vocals. he is also going to tweak some drums and stuff on it.
I used my trusty Takamine Psf-49c ... I saw it on the internet .. didnt know how it sounded, but thought it looked cool and bought it. I dont recommend buying instruments that way :) I was lucky I guess. the stereo mc012 mics really make the guitar sound really well. In the future Im going to get a really nice outboard compresser/eq. but for now im using my plain jane 1402 mackie board
again... thanks!

Ah! This is how I like to do a post. You give me a great tune and a really clean mix with a great performance! I don't have to critique or nitpick! Its great, you two. If this is the rough mix, I can't wait to hear the final! You are both very talented!

I'm late to this 'cause I've been out of pocket for the last few weeks but it's not too late to say this is great. A very cool song and Tom....great vocals. I agree about the acoustic sounding good and the (much too short) acoustic ride really does have a special sound. I haven't really read the other replies and I'm sure every possible thing has been covered....but very nice collab guys. This collaboration thing is really growing here and I like it! :D

I liked the way the guitars sound and work together. I liked the way Sluice's voice sounded on this one. Got some falsetto goin' there - I can relate. Crystal clear recording.

Some harmony goofs at about 2:58? Something sounded amiss. The only other thing I could say is a bass part with a bit more definition (like a boost at 800k) might be nice.

Great job over guys.

This is really interesting. Kind of a hiphop/R & B sound, but with aterna vocals. Has anyone ever done that before? Really well done. A couple of notes in the vocal seemed strange, but maybe you're going for that, kind of a dischordant (is that a word?) tension.

Great job!

Macle

oh this is very nice. very clean guitar recording and the vocals are perfect for the song. can't find a thing that begs to be changed. maybe bring up the guitar solo a bit, it's just not jumping out volume wise.

i really like the vocals. there is like no vibrato in your voice sluice and it gives a very unique character to your singing. very original.

Words don't come, just too good!!

Love the voice, one of a kind.

Great song, great recording.

How much we owe you for the listen?
