I'm having trouble with the love-in for this tune.

Beautiful intro, sounds great throughout, but vocally sounds a bit straining at times, especially harmonizing. Maybe the combo of the two voices together is not working. Musically, it's great.

It's weird, because I've listen to other tunes by each and liked the vocals, like Slice of your Life is perhaps the best tune I've heard here.

Humble Opinion

There are some elements that work really REALLY well in this song, and the recording sounds absolutely great...and anybody who is willing to suffer through transferring half a gig of information over the internet definitely deserves stars and stuff.

My next comment is based upon pure emotion, and relates solely to the writing; the tune doesn't grab me like others that I've heard involving either of you; the melody of the verses sounds kinda' like it was derived from dropped silverware, and the stuff about hanging dead squirrels from dead trees like breadcrumbs was just kinda' distracting to me.

SUMMARY:
1. GREAT RECORDING;
2. NOT MY BAG;
3. OTHERS SEEM TO LOVE IT, SO IGNORE ME.

for some reason I thought the acoustic sounded like MC012s....

not "sounded like", but I just thought "hmm that sounds great...i wonder if those are mc012s" just out of popularity.

I'm really going to have to get a pair of those.

JMarcomb,

I had a question about the collaboration.

You said sluiCe downloaded a 391 meg Cakewalk file.
Did you guy's do it direct some how,are you set up as a server?
Or did you post it or ftp it somewhere?

Hope you don't mind my asking, just I have a few collabs. in the works and would love to be able to use wav. files.

Man,012's through Mackie pre's,fantastic sound!
That's a sweet guitar you have there too,(help's to be an acoustic shredder too!):D

Thanks,
Pete

Hehehehe...fuck. Sorry 'bout that, Tom. I should really read comments before posting - I just read it, and saw all those RAVE reviews about the GREAT acoustic tone... I agree with that comment on this tune, btw.

No, this one's great. It's the OTHER one that sucks :D
(obviously, I'm kidding...you've never posted anything that I've heard that sucks, but this is the danger that you run into when you have 2 songs on the front page. I mean, of all the egotisically maniacal things to do... Okay, again, joking...you didn't post this, right? Right. Okay, jokin's almost over)

Two songs on the front page...sheesh.

BTW - Like my avatar language? I dedicate it to the prick who gave my daughter one star TWICE...Hey, at least it wasn't TWO people, rigth?

Two songs on the front page...how dare you.

:D
Man, this one's great!!!

NOMINATED

I hereby nominate "Why Are You Still Here" as "HR.com MP3 Clinic Song of the Year"...

man... ther've been so many good toons by Guernica, Sam, SLuiCe, chrisharris, crawdad, macle, VOXVENDOR, and many others...

But this is just the absolute sweeeetest... :)

cool story....... I just met Michael Angelo.. if anybody knows who that is? Ive seen him in my guitar mags and seen him play his double neck guitar, so I went up to him and we started chatting. Boy.. this guy knows his stuff when it comes to recording... he also uses Cakewalk, which is cool to know. We talked about compression a little bit and recording techniques..... anyways.. i grabed his business card and I told him i would stop by his recording studio its only 30 mins away... how cool!

I have to run to the airport in a little bit, so sorry if my responses arnt really long

Crawdad

Thanks Crawdad.... I just seen you poste a new tune which Im going to check out. your recording are very clean and a pleasure to listen to.

Lt. Bob

Hey.. your the collab king I hear :) Thanks for checking this out as I will check out your next collaboration as soon as it comes out.

Triplem

Its my neighbor :) Yeah... Sluice had a few beers after work so his vocal intonation might not of been 100% :) , then again I dont like robotic recording... I like that raw vocal sound. I ran the bass through my guitar POD... sounded ok but I will work on a better bass sound.
Thanks

macle

yes.. the smooth music with the alternative vocals is cool... I havent heard anything like it yet.
I really liked your tunes also.
Good luck!

erichenryus

the guitar solo is a couple db too quiet.ill work on that. as always - thanks for stopping by and listening

jono_3

thanks x3 :)

GT

Thanks a bunch gt... this one is on us ;)

lynx

thanks for your insight... its nice to know what everybody thinks. Ive never heard Slice of your Life... who sings it? that would be cool to listen to.
talk to ya around

chrisharris

yeah wrong song :) ... I was like .. I dont remember hearing anything about squirrels hanging from dead trees.. sounds funny though :)

Wes..

no complains about the mics.... when I fingerpick with the nylon guitar I do have to eq the low end a little... but that would go for most mics. youll luv em

muzeman

I have a server setup here that i mess around with and i put the file on the server and he downloaded it from me. you could also download FTP server software that would enable someone to download a file or files from you. Its pretty simple to set up, but because they are .wav files they can take awile to download. A cakewalk bundle.. bundles all the program info along with the wave files and is essentially your desktop on the collaborators.very nice.
let me know if you need any help and good luck!

man... you can be a hr.com judge in my book :) thats too cool to say that. There really is soo much great stuff in here it would be one tight race, but thanks alot for being so generous and take good care

off to the airport!

heres a clip of michael angelo

boy.. he can really play the guitar fast

Ya, the song does have a nice mellow ride, and I was going to lay down the vocal nice and soft like, but after a few beers I got a bit aggressive :D The falsetto parts are actually in my range, but I tried them in falsetto just to ease things up a bit. I did the vocal in a couple takes, then sent it off to Jeff to have a listen to the ideas, which he posted. :D
I may re-do the vocals or I may not. If Jeff wants me to I will, but I'm not trying to sound like Joe Rock from the Back Door Boys either, so take that for what it's worth. Or maybe I should just stick to guitar! But if we do decide to do something with the tune (consider the logistics involved!), I may re-track them, it's easy enough, and Jeff could tell me what he has in mind. I was thinking a few lines about Satan would fit nicely! Or Noelle Bush.

Jeff, the new studio is set up, so after a couple more days of arranging the rest of the house I'll be good to go.

haha... thats funny
I needed a teacher like that :)

jimmy_LD

thanks jimmy..

Im from northern burbs of Chicago and Sluice is from Portland Maine. Im not too sure about his music background, but Im from a family of non musicians :) I just have a love for music, so Ive been playing since 15.. pretty much every day. I took a guitar lesson for one day, but quite because I ended up showing the teacher techniques. started buying recording equiptment for the home studio and having tons of fun with it!

SLuice hasnt heard this yet, but heres a sneakpeek of what Im putting together for him to sing over :D

Oh boy... he'll be pissed :) ;)

song is project 12

grrrrrrrrr

:D

Hey Jeff, I only took one guitar lesson too in high school. The reason I quit was because it was supposed to be classical training and all the guy did was have me play rhythms while he solo-ed over it. What a bunch of crap! And it was my school music teacher that recommended him!

I guess I better give "Project 12 a listen" lest I end up the last to hear it!
