hey, im looking for some mics that will work well with both drums and guitar. i just saw an ad in mars music (i dont know if this is a local MA store or not, i think they're nationwide) for some new cobalt mics. they are called the EV Cobalt Series CO4 and CO7. list is 140, mars has em for 50. just wondering if anybody has heard of or used em. im also looking into 6 SP7 mics (with 6 booms) by nady for 229. (ive heard some pretty good recordings with them) im also looking into 2 SM57's for 80 a piece. im just trying to find out which of these sets would be best for micing a 5 piece drums set with 5 cymbals (along with some RS mics if i get the SM57s) as well as guitar and bass.

A 57 is the absolute cheapest mic I will use for recording.

If a mic is not a condensor, it's a dynamic...whatever name they put on it. (OK, minus wierd crap like ribbon mics) And if it's cheap, then it's cheap. You would be better off, I think, with the 2 57's and a couple of the low-priced condensors on the market. Just read the posts in this forum to find out all about them.
