Here is the initial response from Soundcraft. This is not definitive.

"I'll forward this to someone in the UK who would know more about the details of the design. Having looked at the schematics, I would say they are the same in principle design theory, but there are obvious refinements as I look at the different schematics over the years. For example, both the Ghost and the M-Series use discrete transistors on the front-end in a differential long tail pair configuration, but for the first time the M-series does it with four transistors arranged as darlington pairs - presumably for the advantages that gives in stepping up current and compensating for temperature changes. So the technical answer to your question, is they are the same yet refined.

IMHO, it shouldn't matter if the design is the same or not - creative artists don't want to have their minds cluttered with technical specs - what really matters is does it sound good, which is a subjective opinion of course, but I've heard a lot of people praising the Ghost pre's - comparing them to rack mounted pre's costing hundreds and thousands of dollars. So I would say, listen to them and let them sell themselves...

Thanks,
Alex Welti"

Kinda of a vague response but I will pass along additional info as it comes in.

Bump.

Anyone have any new information on this topic?

Middleman, ever hear back from Soundcraft?

Wow, its always scary when people dig up these old threads. I had forgot about this.

No, I did not get any additional information from Soundcraft. After I picked up my used Soundcraft Live and verified it had a similar circuit on the preamps I was satisfied.

Oh and he was right, always use your ears when judging a preamp.
