clicks in recording

I am a first time user (from 4track tape)
& there are clicks in my mix when I record on another track. I did not use punch in feature. Please advise how to correct this, as I would like to continue using n-track. The clicks do not occur on the first track though? Only on subsequent overdubs? Have you tried muting the first of two tracks to see if you can still hear it on the second?

When I first ran Cakewalk I had the same problem and got rid of it by increasing the uncashed transfer rate by installing a better software driver for my hard drive.
