hey, i have a 424 porta1 and it seems like no matter how much i clean it theres a loud hum allways. i want to make it go away, but i dont really know what else to do. could this be caused by not-demagnetizing or is this more likely a problem with the head's? oh also the old power supply went to crap so im using a different 12 volt adapter. could that be it?

any tips would be very much appreciated.

YES !!

These are the exact specs of the power supply/adapter for the original Tascam 424:

Tascam
AC Adapter
Model No. PS-P424
Input: AC120V 60Hz 26W
Output: DC12V 1100mA

This is what you need again, try Full Compass parts dept.

umm

heres what it says on what im using, would this cause my problems?

input: 117Vac 60Hz 6W
Ouput: 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9, 12V
DC 300mA

and also

any other ideas where i might find one? i didnt see any on that site.

Ya see where the old one said 1100mA and the one you are using says 300mA. That's your biggest problem.

Give them a ringy-dingy!

Tascam Parts dept, (323) 727-4840

thanks!

you've all been alot of help! thanks alot. ill definately give them a call tommorow - i hope they can still send me something that old! Yeah, as soon as I actually bothered to think about it for 1 second I realized t hat was a really obvious mistake... lucky theres other people here to figure these things out for me! how quiet are they usually? i havent heard mine without this adapter and a pretty noticable hum

 If Tascam can't, Full Compass parts dept might be worth a try......

The authentic Tascam part is preferrable,...

but all you need is a p/s with the proper voltage/current rating, and the proper plug type & polarity.

Tascam has many replacement parts for their "legacy" machines, so it's worth calling them first.;)

 With Fullcompass, you have to call the parts dept., they will get genuine tascam parts. 1-800-356-9886.

umm

does anyone know what size the connector is that goes into the machine? i got an adapter that SHOULD have worked. but i gues there must be something wrong with either the size or something, because it didnt. it fit in the machine, but nothing happened... and it was the correct specs. im so confused.

 Did you get the . PS-P424 ?
You are talking about the original 424, the tan colored unit with 3 speed motor??

da MUTT

yes

the original 424, its allright im just gonna go into the store today and try out a variety of adapters till something works.
