Clean Tube Amp Head

I understand that building an amp from scratch is not that easy, as you can get killed sorting out all the gremlins that creep in, at night. That's what keeps me from taking a shot- I have little patience for things that don't work right. And, if you decide to sell, they often don't bring too much because buyers will be wary of the build quality and component selection.

But I bet it can be lots of fun!

Good point stevieb about the high voltage. I should have mentioned that. You definitely have to respect it. The voltages inside a tube amp are lethal, so you absolutely must follow "the rules". As for it not being that easy, I'd say that depends on what you set out to build and what experience you bring to it. I've only built one amp (59 Deluxe clone with some mods). It works great, and needed almost no debugging. I have built other electronic things before though.

Definitely something you have to be "into".

Cheers,
J

A friend just got this:
Blackstar HT-40 Club Guitar Combo Amp at zZounds

Absolutely gorgeous clean sounds and really good distortion channel too plus a few different modes for more variety in the tones.
Looks like it's built like a tank and at a very reasonable price.
If I'd seen it before buying my Mark V, I may well have gotten one instead.
