I have recently been given a Yamaha MQ1602 mixer. It is probably about 20 years old, 13 of the 16 channels still work and the machine has only 1/4" outs. My question is should I keep this mixer and invest my money into some more mics and preamps.
OR

Do I sell the beast and get a Behringer (probably on of those little Eurodesk deals).

I am planning on using this for multitrack recording. At the moment I am using tape, but I am planning on moving into digital some time later this year.

Please help.

Why don't you invest in a Mackie or something? My behringer (partly) broke down, and I've heard lotsa complaints about them...

I would keep the Yamaha until you can buy something nice.

I think I am just going to hold on to the yamaha, fishmed. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford something decent.
