Finaly found a store in my area (50 miles) with more then two monitors on display. My local store only has a pair of mackies, and bx8s and they overprice everthing by a few hundred dollars. I been buying online because of them.

So I got to listen to rpk 8s,a couple events,bx5a,
a few samson resolv 50,65, and some yamahas.

I like the rpks the best they were $400 for the pair but slightly out of my budget and seemed compareble to the $600 events. Looks like the best deal.
I cant afford them but I dont want to throw away money on cheaper ones.

The bx5a are almost in my price range, but when you switched from the rpks, events to them the volume dropped in half, might be from the size and power. they sounded a little muffled but the bass was better then expected.

The samson were just ok nothing realy special, I didnt like the yamahas that much either.

the event alps werent that great but the more expensive ones kicked ass, there to much for me I just wanted to hear em. The alps werent that much but they didnt sound any better then the others in its price range.

I wanted to hear the dx4, and other $150 monitors but they werent hooked up. I would love to see how they compare.

Only question I have is do monitor mixers add anything to the sound?
Basicly can I get them to sound the same without it.

I put in my cd that I mixed on desktop speakers and was listening for mistakes and what not, to my suprise my music sounded better. How am I suppose to mix if the monitors make it sound so good. I listen to my song on various systems and knew I had to remix and retrack most of it. So why did it sound so good? I expected it to sound like crap. Am I just not use to good speakers? I should have listen to a different cd but I didnt think of that at the time.

Not sure what you mean by this. If you're asking if a mixing board adds anything, the answer is YES. If it's something else, post again and clarify it for me.

As far as monitor choice goes, have a listen to the ones that I picked for my home setup, the KRK RP5's.

Here's a snip from the British music products mag Sound On Sound's review of the RP8's and the RP5's:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Although the Rokit 5s are rather small by comparison, and have a less extended bass response, they still deliver a solid punch and avoid sounding boxy at moderate listening levels. Moreover, the bass isn't hyped up to emphasise only kick drums. These speakers would be a good choice for a small studio, where the room isn't particularly well-behaved at very low frequencies, but in an average sized room I'd still prefer to work with the Rokit 8s, which are also capable of higher sound levels. The technical spec doesn't mention a maximum SPL, but I got more than enough clean level for my own tastes.

These may not be KRK's most expensive monitors, but they are ideally suited to the majority of project studio applications, delivering clarity and a decent amount of bass extension in a compact and affordable package. I really liked working with the Rokit 8s, but when switching to the Rokit 5s there was no sense of being fobbed off with a small sound — these are great little monitors for this UK price. All speakers built to a cost involve design compromises, but I feel the designers have done well in this respect to deliver a range of well-engineered, affordable active monitors with no significant vices. Whatever corners have been cut, they don't affect the ability of these monitors to let you hear a properly balanced mix with clarity and detail."

If you're mixing with good monitors, then that will help, I think it will anyway.

I like the rp8s the best and they were $400 for the pair.
I was considering buying the rp5 for $300, They werent hooked up so I couldnt listen to them but most people reccomend them.
I think im going to shoot for the 8s better deal.

They had the monitors routed thru a monitor mixer see link for example, im not sure if its just for more inputs/outputs or to control volume. I dont think it was a mixing board.
Was just curious if I bought the rp8s and plugged them into my interface if I would get the same sound.(not including the room difference)

a gutiar center is opening up soon, this will put the overpriced store out of biznez, I been buying everything online to save money.

yeah, I always liked the RP8 sound too. I had the RP8's at home, yellow cones. Their huge.
KRK can go loud it seems. Krk's seem to have alot of power under the hood .....more db's than many.

GC sold me some RP8's demo (cost) for around $375ish or was it $275? You maybe can get them down some. They take trade-ins too and have done me alright on a few things...not everytime.

the RP5's you could switch on/off a sub would be interesting. I think I'd have to have a sub on the 5's someday. this is a great combo imo...

and still a mix I was doing last night, was checked on a cheap CD alarm clock junk player with a 1" distorted speaker and it really showed some bad points, and then it was checked about 20 times in the car today taking notes.

and now I'm going to go tweak some more.... :D

good luck
