There's a great British magazine (actually, all British magazines are great IMO) called Future Music. It has loads of tips that either serve to enlighten or educate on how to record in various scenarios. Lately, they've had articles on recording guitar and voice. Also, they did something on setting up a computer for recording purposes. Very well written, and most issues come with a CD full of cleared samples/loops. Also, you must read CAR magazine from the UK. The reviews section is hilarious, and very informative.

Their sister publication, Computer Music, is also a great one. I get both.

The only complaint I've got with Future Music is their tendency to shrink-wrap the magazine, making it impossible to scan for content at the newstand. Computer Music doesn't do this.
