Cheaper or more Expensive?

Well, I don't have the Oktava. But I do have the Behringer and I did try singing into it, and let's just say it'd work but I don't think it'd be anyones first choice for lead vocal (backing maybe, or for a choir). Being an omni there's no proximity effect. Whether you see that as a good or a bad thing would entirely depend on how much you like to use the bass boost provided by PE (or not). I do think a pair of ECM8000s would be a worthwhile addition to your mic collection though. I have a pair and I find them very satisfactory :)

I know how to place the drum mics...would it be a good idea to get another sm 57 to put under the snare? I've read that many times.

It's not an absolutely necessary. Whether you use an underneath snare depends on the sound you're going for. For the most common sounds and purposes, an underneath snare is a non-necessary extra.

I don't know whether you'll impress anyone, but you WILL get good sound. That's a guarantee.

Uh, sorry, but I wouldn't go that far. He'll suck less (he said himself he's too lazy to look for good mics).

Prove me wrong, Blink180tom. Prove me wrong.

HUH?

i havent used the ATM-25(i kinda want to now), but the Peavey 520i and the PG series kick mic... so i cant really comment on that.

But I agree totaly with the MK-012's as overheads and the Sm57 on snare. I've been using that and it sounds cool.

i second what chess wrote

(You can probably get a couple of Octava MC012's used (ebay), or wait untill another sale at Guitar Center for about $150 or so.

An SM-57 for $75 . . .

And an Audio Technica ATM25 for another $100 or so.

That would keep you right around the $300 range, and you'd be much better off than with a crapola Nady set.)

i use mc 012's for oh and sm 57's for toms and snare and a d112 for kick(i want to get a atm25) and i get fantastic results, without an under snare mic.
