yes
Well, apparently the Drum Mic set i was planning on getting is pretty shitty. So I was wondering if it owuld be cheaper to put together my own set of 5 or so mics. I'm looking to spend at the most $300, which is probly no good. BUt there is also a Shure 6 Peice Drum Mic Set, is that good or bad?

You can probably get a couple of Octava MC012's used (ebay), or wait untill another sale at Guitar Center for about $150 or so.

An SM-57 for $75 . . .

And an Audio Technica ATM25 for another $100 or so.

That would keep you right around the $300 range, and you'd be much better off than with a crapola Nady set.

Tom. Are you still reading this?

There are two Marshall MXL 603S Small Diaphragm Condensors on Ebay USA right now with BIN prices of $55 each. Though they both seem to be being sold by the same vendor. So you might want to check that he/she actually has two first.

Probably nothing drastically wrong with it. Shure is a fairly reputable company with a long history of building mics.

Shure is good. Thanks for you help everyone...Hmmm I still dont know what to get

Not too sure about the PG series though. Sometimes when you pay peanuts you do actually get monkeys. You might like to browse these threads before you commit yourself.

wow thanks man youre aweseom.

what would be the absolute best setup for under $400

If you're a rock drummer, I'd use Shure PG-52 on kick ($120), and a Shure SM-57 ($90) set under the hi-hat pointing across the lip of the snare towards the floor tom (for hihat and snare), and a Shure SM-57 ($90) just over the drummer's head as an overhead mic. directed at the middle of the toms.

If you're a jazz drummer, and have a mic preamp with phantom power available (studio), I'd use one Rode NT-1A condenser ($300) two feet over the drummer's head directed at the snare.

That's my $300 solution for all new gear (based on prices at www.musiciansfriend.com). You may see better deals from time to time.

Check any second hand sound gear before you pay for it. Lots of damaged second hand mics change hands at bargain prices.

If you're willing to push it to $400 you can get a Factory Matched Stereo Pair of MXL603Ss for $200 (and that includes a case and shockmount) from http://www.8thstreet.com

Then get an Audio-Technica ATM25 for $140 from http://www.samedaymusic.com or 8th Street Music again.

And finally pick up an SM57 for $15 a month from http://www.music123.com

That should be just dandy. :D

Nah, my suggestion's way better (back me up on this people). You do have $400, right? Because if you don't you can also buy the ATM25 from 123 for $15 a month. You can afford $30 a month, can't you?

get the atm25 for kick as well as a pair of oktava mk012s for overheads. if you're feeling the need then add an sm57 for snare.

Don't even think of going there

Whoever told you Samson mics are a good idea is either

(a) A pathological liar

Or

(b) Employed by them.

The MXL 603S FMSP is your best bet if you have to have the mics right now. And if you don't mind sorting through a bunch of MK012s down your nearest GC, that's your second best bet.

You'll be less confused once you've bought those mics I told you about ;)
