Cheap Volume control?

I might be using a computer setup as a temp till my recorder comes into town (July). I would be using the RME 96/52 adat card and a behringer UltraGain ada8000. It occured to me that I should be able to route the nearfeild audio out to the UltraGain through it's digital to audio converters but I don't think there is a volume control for it. Hence do you know of a simple volume control that I can run in between the ultragain and nearfeilds that does not degrad the audio signal and is relativly cheap?
