gimmi your mic!
hi --

my humble studio is finally getting in shape. What I needed is a 1 channel strip (pre + compressor) for my Sennheiser 441 (vocals) and Neumann KM184 (tenor sax) mics. Since I am not recording simultaneously, a 1 channel strip would do. My spending limit is approx. US-$500. Can you give me recommendations what I should get? I was thinking about the Focusrite Voicemaster Pro, the M-Audio Tampa or something else that I can afford but is good enough to let me mics shine. Any ideas? Thanxxx!

In the $500 range, the VC1Q is the Meek with the best track record, and I'll bet the new version will be even sweeter.

I'd say Focusrite Track Master . . . or better yet a used Symetrix 508 with either the Monte McGuire Mod (see rec.audio.pro archives), or the Jim Williams mod (see www.audioupgrades.com).

I know this isn't the right place to do this, but I'm looking to sell my Focusrite Green 3 MK2 channel strip for a little less than that. It used to be a lot more money than all of the units listed above when it was in production and is close to the Focusrite Red stuff as far as sound goes.

You can email me at waste@aol.com if interested.

thanks a lot for your help! I'll look into what you've suggested. I think I might not wait for the new Joemeek line of products and better get something that is available now and proven to be good. Did anyone check out the M-Audio Tampa? Its only $500.-

I think the Tampa has been discussed here some....do a search on it and something should come up.
