Most people don't mature above a middle school level their entire lives . . . There is a certain fun in the game of offending people. It's hillarious to watch reactions...wouldn't be so fun without them.

Yeah, um, some of us have moved beyond trying to play mind games with other people for fun, and are concentrating on actually accomplishing something with our lives . . .

yeah, umm, playing mind games with people goes hand in hand with what I actually accomplish with my life, and puts food on the table as well. And really, there are many people who acheive quite a bit in their lives by playing off of people's thought process. I moved past it, and then realized, 1. it was great fun, and 2. it's something that can be capitolized off of.

*slaps my forehead*

If there is to be a difference between having the freedom to express one's religion, and then the freedom to speak with a sailor's toungue, then it's truely not free, is it? Religion is acceptible by society and not "foul" language...so where is the freedom?

Lmao!!!!! I don't mind a foul mouth either:D but if you're going to talk about freedom of speech and define it as being dictated by what society finds acceptable or not you need to go back to school as does the original poster. I mean shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Freedom of speech is not the right to have everyone like what you have to say. Quite the opposite, it's the right to say things that people don't like, without going to jail for it. What happens to you in on a social level is another thing all together and does not enter into the discussion. Let’s not forget this is a privately owned forum too and Dragon owns the rights around here except for booting based on race, religion, sex, etc.

What ever path you choose in life there will be those that disagree with vigor.
That's life.

Oh I don't think so. Dragon would be within his rights to restrict the site on those bases. Although I think he is in CA, which has more restrictive rules, but from a federal perspective he would be allowed.

It's possible..... Not sure on that one. There's not many cases you can get away with that, housing, hiring. You can only do it in pricing if you can statisticaly prove a reason (such as life insurance). But anyway.

I'm off. I was not going to comment on this old thread but, I get tired of hearing the whole "freedom of speech" thing as if the laws are made up of those three words alone and magicaly sheild all from persicution by society.

the word fuck is one of the most versitile words in the english language. If you are stupid enough to judge smeone by their level of obscenity, then you really should get out more.

If you are stupid enough to make "fuck" a regular part of your speech, you need to get a larger vocabulary.

What most peolpe these days seem to forget (or most likely, have never been taught) is that "freedom" and "rights" carry with them the extra burden of responsibility and care as to when, where, and how one chooses to exercise those rights.

Just because one CAN do or say something, even if it is totally legal and is an exercise of their personal rights, doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea to actually DO it. I used to know a guy who's favorite saying was. "I have a right to be angry." I would always respond to him, "Why do you CHOOSE to exercise that right? You also have a right to be happy, you know."

Rights and freedom have far more impact when used thoughtfully, judiciously, and with respect. Conversely they are watered down and treated with less import when thrown around like pennies.

Both freedom and personal rights can be - and often are - misused and abused by those who claim to cherish them yet at the same time seem use them with nowhere near the respect thet deserve.

It's called taking responsibility for one's own actions and treating others with respect.

Jeez Glen, didn't you learn anything after your recent venture into the "Do you really buy that expensive software" thread? It's like..... I don't know......trying to spread democracy to Iraq?

Nicely said though. :)

I have a fifteen year old daughter, and her silly stands on principles makes me remember that I was that young and stupidly idealistic once. Even though, I never defended my right to be obnoxious and rude.

I saw a picture of her on stage singing and beavering at the same time, so apparantly you don't have to choose.

LOL, Rob. Yeah, this stove looks just as hot as that other one, and, now that you mention it, they really are quite related topics.

I probably should have exercised my right to remain silent :D. I will certainly try to do better in my discretion on when, where and how I choose to exercise my rights from here on in.

OTOH, that post seems to have really struck a chord; I've already gotten several private responses from people who want to vote for me  . Yikes, folks, be careful what you ask for... Maybe Clintbama McRomiani should take notes :p .
