I recently bought a 788 with CDR on eBay. It has worked like a charm, exceeding my expectations. With a batch of "test" songs premastered I'm ready to burn and I get message, "drive not detected". Everything lights up, CD drive humming, connections double checked, scsi terminator in place, Steps re-checked
in the manual.
I get on the forum and see the "compatible" CD burner is not on the short list. It is Tascam CD-R624. Is this my problem? Is there a way I can check if the problem is the burner or the 788 or am I making some mistake?
I don't think this eBay seller would have knowingly sold me a mis-match.

I don't know if I can help but I got an idea. I use the Yam 2816 and the recorded tracks have to be mastered into a stereo track and that stereo track must be SAVED into a stereo track list; if not saved, it won't be there to burn into a CD.

I don't now if your gear works in a similar fashion. Just an idea. I sure somebody here will know more.

Still stumped. I retraced my steps. Connected CD burner to 788 with all power off. Turned on the 788, then the CD burner.
Checked my master, exited "CHECK MASTER".
Now, I'm in normal mode, selected MENU, then CD-R, then, CD-WRITER. Within a couple seconds I have a message "DISK NOT FOUND".

I'm using same CD-R disks I use for CD burning on my computer, 700MB, 80 minutes.
 
Not sure Ricky, but try turning the CDR on first... then when you turn on the 788 it should search for attatched drives, hopefully picking up you CDR... this is how I go about it and it works fine... SCSI attatchments are a beast...

did you go to check disc. on my unit, I hardly ever have the cdr powered on, and when I'm ready to use it, I just turn it on, and go to disc, and then check, always works for me.

Start the cdr788 first, wait for the green light under the cup holder to stop flashing.

Now turn on the 788, you'll see a screen come up "Scan Drives".

If your cdr is on scsi ID #3 you should see: 0..0...

The first Zero means the scsi has recognized your internal HD on ID #0, The first and second DOTS mean there's nothing hooked to ID #1 & #2, the second Zero means your cdr is recognized on scsi ID #3 and should be ready to use by the 788.

Or, like dbt said, do a Check Disk, go to MENU>DISK>CHECK> and it will scan your drives just like start-up.

There is also a problem with old firmware on the CDR788s.

You need at least Version 1.0P, any version before that will not recognize 700 mb, 80 minute discs.
