CD burner (buffer question)

I have a CD burner with a maximum speed rate of 6X, and a 2MB buffer. I have been told that music (which comprises 95% of my burnings) should be done at a 4X max speed, and I have been following this advice. But now I see that there are burners on the market claiming a 12X speed rate, and with a 4MB buffer size. Would such a unit allow me to burn my music - successfully so - at a much faster rate than that which I presently use? Also, just what would the larger buffer size translate into? Answers to these questions would be most appreciated.
