Anyone who has time, please give this a listen and give your honest opinion on vocal quality as well as recording quality (reverb level, compression, mix level, etc..) It requires a fairly dramatic change in register when going from the voice of the father to the voice of the son. View attachment father and son.mp3
Please bear in mind that I am completely self taught, both on vocals and recording, but if you think it sucks, speak up.

I am currently unable to listen properly so I can't comment on the mix, but from my laptop speakers, the performance sounds good. Your voice has a good timbre to it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

That was encouraging. Maybe you can play it again later through some decent headphones. You can get some acceptable ones at Walmart for $20 - $40.

Thanks. :)

I have a $1500 monitoring chain though. I just can't listen through it because I'll wake the family! :laughings:

I'll be going to bed after I type this, because I worked all last night and have to go back in tonight. I'll check back later to see what You thought after hearing it through your monitors.

So I'm listening now. At the beginning, I am hearing something very high pitched I think in the right channel. I don't know if that's just my sleep deprivation talking though :laughings:. I am hearing it every playback though. After the vocals come in, I don't notice any of that much, but it still finds its way in.

At 0:42 seconds, I heard something really deep (a deep piano note? A bass?). I'm only listening through my headphones right now, not my monitors, so I can't tell how it will sound with a sub. I don't think it would be too heavy though. The snare sounds a little weird when hit hard. It sounds like "clunk," not really that more clicky sound you hear in the original. This is only when it is hit harder than usual. It sounds like the original much of the time. And that's really subjective though. Other than those, I can't think of much. Nice cover! The backing vocals were superb!

Good overall job - now you know why Cat Stevens was a superstar....great song.
