Career Consultants like IndieBiz and Taxi.Com. I am looking for some advice, but...

A'ight... I think that it is pretty much clear that my point has been lost here and swallowed up in people calling me really original and clever names (like "Brain Dead") and all of you extra special "industry pro's" having missed my original point by a long shot...

I am asking about a real company that can act as a CONSULTANT for companies that wish to increase their financial stability by selling their product. This product being CDs containing original musical performances, and various merchandise pertaining to the brand. I included some VERY OVERLY BASIC questions just to give some examples.

I was not asking you all to answer those questions. I already know the answers to THOSE questions. I just threw them up there to give an idea of a consultancy.

I do not want some indiebiz or TAXI bullshit that promises to get my name on some list, or promises me free admission to any musical conferences that are only visited by a few washed out industry flakes and a couple thousand other goobers that paid $100/year for the same deal. I am not asking for a company that promises to put me in contact with major label A&R people.

I have NO INTEREST in major label anything. I have no interest in getting rich selling my little songs. I have no interest in winning awards, or getting on the front of magazines or anything twinkly and stary eyed. I am just a very realistic minded person that knows that as much professional help as possible on any business venture can only help. I am sure that there are hundreds of ways to survive playing and selling music. The only problem is that most musicians (including myself) are focused on the music (as it SHOULD BE!!!!) and that there is very little insipration left at the end of the day for developing diversification strategies and attempting to maximise exposure and insure financial stability of the company's infrastructure.

Thus I have posted asking weather or not a CONSULTANCY exists for the music industry.

You bored pricks have attacked me from the beginning without ever stopping to truely attempting to understand what I was asking. And then to top it all off you all say that I have an attidude?!?!? In the future please, if you do not have something constructive... or you haven't even read the question thuroughly enough to acknowledge the underlying question... DO NOT RESPOND TO MY POSTS ANYMORE!

You arrogant pugs!

Ditto.

So what did you think about the Vandor guys' take on recording? I have to sit at work today watching a piece of equipment self test and calibrate all day so I'm reading the 107 page novel again.
You know he said it takes MONEY to make it in this business. What the hell am I gonna do now??? I knew there had to be a catch :D :D :D

Yo DigitalDon...

Where in South GA are ya? I was born and raised in Atlanta but went to high school in VERY rural South GA. I also went to 2 years of Uni in Americus GA. Now I am living in Athens, GA.

Where you from?

Whooooaaahhh my 666th post has come and gone as well. us Georgia boys stick together.

Hey Pisces - Damn what a coincidence! Seems like we talked sometime last year. I'm near Albany. I guess you went to Ga Southwestern. I'm sure the music scene is a lot different in Athens with U of Ga there. Here - it's almost nonexistent. Very few clubs and even fewer ones with live entertainment. My son's band (Lone Ryder) plays over in Tifton this Friday. They are about to start working out farther to Milledgeville, Valdosta, Thomasville and Statesboro (party town, Ga Southern U). I'm sure at some point they'll be up to Athens. What's the club scene like there (live entertainment)? Are there many studios around there?

It would be nice if the producers with deep pockets would just advertise.......hardest part is finding the bankroll. There's a lot of undiscovered talent out there that just don't have the cash to carry it through.
I think as far as doing an indy label and selling at shows, your son should be OK until he gets a taste of success.....then look out! Might want to start looking now for the bankroll!

BTW, the tunes I was going to send...I only have one recorded. Are you still interested? Got another one that my son wants me to record, but......so many projects, so little time.

bd - sure, send it on. Yeah I have a major project going on - finishing my studio behind my house. I haven't recorded since last September and it's killing me! I hope to be in the new studio and back recording in about a month. The band is already practicing in there (couldn't keep them out any longer).

Don,
I'll try to get the other one done this week before I send...at least you'll have two to throw out! My son seems to think it's one of my best. He also thinks the one I do have recorded is too fast, so feel free to slow it down a bit.

Athens GA was voted by Rolling Stone Magazine a few months ago as the #1 college music scene in the entire US (which means "the world"). There are 56 bars with stages in a three block radius in the downtown area alone. Athens all in all I have no idea how many stages there are. The scene is as diverse as can be. There is a lot of Rock, Southern Rock, Punk, Ska, Hip Hop, Southern Doogie Woogie Jam Bands, Weird hippies that live in trees and just read poetry over-top of sounds of car crashes... you name it, it is on a stage somewhere in Athens 7 nights a week until 2:00 a.m. It is great!!!

I do think we talked earlier about GA. I have been to the mall in Albany about 6,000 times. I lived in Cordele and Albany was the closest ANYTHING to Cordele. Hell I used to refer it to The Big City when I was young.

There was an old train depot where bands used to plasy in Alabny... is that thing still around?

The train depot. Yeah there was some kind of a multi-band get together there back last fall. A crappy little studio, i.e. "label" put it on. They're closed down now. As I remember, their claim to fame was a Behringer 24 channel board and "top of the line" Behringer mics :D :D :D Ouch!! Someone told me they had eggcrate foam stuck all over the place. A couple of bands did some kind of benefit at the train depot several months ago. Believe it or not I bartended there a little back around 1975/76. All of a sudden I feel old. Shit! Of course I was only 18 and the drinking age was 18 then. I really think raising the drinking age destroyed the club scene here.

There's a "battle of the bands" going on here at Hooters (yeah we have one) on May 17. They had one last summer and it royally sucked. It wasn't the bands, it was the "sound guy." Did I mention the "sound guy" was the same one with the crappy studio. Everybody was pissed because it sounded so bad. Still though, it was a free event with a couple of decent rock bands. There's so little support for music in Albany that hardly anyone showed up. Really sad.

Ok, give me some questions that you don't know the answer to.

Can't speak for Taxi or their conference, but let me tell you something about the Nashville New Music Conference (2NMC).

1. It's the 2nd largest music business conference in the US.
2. We showcase over 400 bands every year.
3. We give bands/musicians more opportunities to play and be heard than any other music conference.

I want you to see it for yourself. Send me an email via www.indiebiz.com, Pisces, and I'll get you hooked up as my guest.
