Im having a hard time getting anything to lock up with my vf-16. I have an Alesis Sr-16 drum machine, and a Roland Xp-10 keyboard. The Roland manual says the keyboards arpeggiator can be synced up with the vf-16. Is it possible to connect the vf-16, keyboard, and drum machine via midi, so they can all work together in time,as i track? I cant even get just the drum machine to lock up with the vf-16. I dont understand how to set the menus in each unit. I have the two midi cables, but the rest is all greek to me. Anyone familiar with how to do this?

Thank you so much.

I don't have a VF-16 or SR-16, but I do have an XP-10. And I can get it to sync to my PC.

I'm not familiar with syncing to a digital recorder, but it must be similar to the computer.

First of all, yes it is possible. Second, you are going to spend a lot of time figuring it out. Lots of trial and error. But let me give you some pointers.

1) you need to decide which piece of equipment is the master.
That will be the one to supply the midi clock to the other devices.
I recommend the VF-16. Check the manual and make sure it can provide a midi sync clock through the midi port.

2) Since you probably only have one midi port you will have to daisy chain everything together. Midi out of VF-16 to Midi in of XP-10, Midi out of XP-10 to Midi in of Sr-16. Don't worry about Midi out of the SR-16 unless you want to record the midi notes. Can the VF-16 record midi?

3) Set both the XP-10 and the Sr-16 to use the "EXTernal" midi clock. You may need your manuals to find out how to do that.
Keep your manuals close when it comes to midi.

I just spent the whole weekend trying to get two synths synced to my computer. Be prepared to invest some time to know your equipment. There isn't a short cut. If you find one, let me know.

Good luck,

Nemal

correction:

When daisy chaining start with the midi out of the Master device to the midi IN of the next, then the midi THRU, not the midi out, of that device to the midi in of the next...

Use the midi thru's, not midi out's for all but the Master device.

Thank you very much, nemal. I'll have some time over the long weekend to try to figure it out.
