just installed Vegas 3.0
using a Roland/M-Audio RPC-1 card-8in 8 out
Windows XP
I want to use WDM drivers, but my only options in Audio Preferences are Windows Classic Wave Driver & Microsoft Sound Mapper. Neither will let me record from any but the first 2 inputs. How can I get it to use WDM driver?

With Vegas you have no choice!

http://www.tweakheadz.com/_disc1/00000047.htm

I couldn't find any mention of the RPC-1 at M-Audio's site or at the Edirol site but that "tweakhead" seems to feel that the latest XP drivers for the Delta 1010 will get you going, in Logic SW, anyway.

Unfortunately I've GOT XP, the latest WDM drivers and a copy of Vegas, but they don't work @ 24 bits!!! Works fine @16 bits if that's any consolation.

I've tried to install the Delta driver, but I can't figure out how to trick Windows into thinking its the right one. It won't let me install it. Also-its not that Vegas only records from inputs 1 and 2 as I originally thought. I can record from any pair of inputs, but only one pair at a time.

Which Delta driver did you install?

Where (what directory) did it place delta.sys?

Delta WDM 5.10.0.27.
It wouldn't let me install it, so it did not place delta.sys at all. The current driver installed (RPC-1 5.10.0.026) is in the system32 file.

When you say it wouldn't "let you" install it, do you mean you got some error message when you ran the .exe file? When I downloaded that same driver (5.10.00.27) the .exe file was just an auto unzip program.

Unzip them to their own directory so it's easy to find them, then use the wizard in the "Add Hardware" app in the Control Panel.
When it asks you for a disk- point it to the directory with the files you just unzipped.

Yes, that's exactly what I did. From the wizard, I chose 'Install from a list or specific location', 'Don't search, I will choose the driver to install', then I click 'Have Disk' and enter the path to the driver files. The message it gives me is, 'The specified location does not contain information about your hardware' I assume it wants a 'Roland RPC-1' driver, not a 'M-Audio Delta' driver.
