hey all,
ok, when i record a track i save it to a wav.then i mix it down. then i try to convert it to a mp3 or wma.when i click on start i get "can't convert 24 or 32 bit wav files.first mix down to 16 bit."

ok,i haven't read the whole manual yet but i didn't have this when i had a regular sound card. i have th AP2496 and the 24bit n-track. i checked the easy stuff, now gidge or jd whadda ya think? jw

You dinna get the dialog because an 'ordinary' soundcard records at 16 bit already, so you don't need to convert. The MP3/WMA converter takes 16 bit files only (I'm not sooo sure there are any converters that can convert 24 bit files to MP3 or WMA, I think the standard is limited to 16 bit audio).

Since you've upgraded to an AP 2496, and are recording to 24 bit, you will probably need to convert into 16 bit to be able to convert to MP3 etc. Nothing to do with the AP or n-Track, I think. But I could be wrong...

i may have got it. i went in when it said convert there are 4 items to choose from to check. soundcard,16bit,24bit,32bit floating. i chose 16bit and hit start and ended up with both a wav file and an mp3. thanks 4 the help. i'll try it a few more times and check back.
