Canopus ADVC HELP REQUIRED

I have recently aquired a Canopus ADVC300.I conected to a Sony EV-C45E video 8 recorder with a red,yellow,and white audio/video phono connecters .I then connected the ADVC300 to hte computer with a 6 pin dv lead,coming out of the ADVC300 with a 4 pin on the other end . When I fired it up the two blue lights below the imput select button both lit up,and pressing the imput button has no effect. My software iss Sony Vegas movie studio plainum,I would be very grateful if someone can advise me as to what might be wrong,I'm a newbie at video editing,and I'm probably missing something very obvious. Uhh, I don't mean to cut you off, but this is a music forum, not a video editing forum. Unless someone here happens to know a lot about video editing (which they probably do), you're probably better off looking for another forum.
