I am gonna buy a crash now, so it's between the Zildjian Sweet ride (nice crash, too) and the A Series Medium 20" Crash. I'm making myself crazy for nothing huh? I can always get the other later. But I am gonna start recording drums soon, and my K Custom 20" ride (love it) doesn't have that nice sizzle that a crash or the Sweet ride will have. The K has more trashy tone to it (love it!). I will have one of these setups by the end of the week. Which one guys?

21" Sweet Ride near floor tom, 20" K Custom Ride near hi hats (used as crash AND ride)
-OR-
20" K Custom Ride near floor tom, 20" A Series Crash Medium near hi hats.

Hi Hats are 14" New Beats by the way.

Thanks everyone,
Rob

P.S. What do you think of my setup so far?

If I did not yet have a crash and I had a 20" ride that doubled as a crash I would be looking for an 18" not a 20". But thats just me.Next add a16" to complete your set up. NIce ride and hats so far.

Personally, I have never heard a ride used as a crash that sounded as good as a crash used as a crash :D

I'd go with the crash/ride setup. You'll probably need that slightly quicker decay more than you know. I might drop it down to an 18" like nick said.

End... you and your threads, lol. :) To answer your question, I would keep the K Ride near the tom and the medium crash near the hats. I agree with everyone else. I'm not sure if you've tried other sizes, but I would probably go with an 18". Or better yet, make things interesting and purchase a 17". If and when you get your Sweet ride, IMO, I would personally use it solely as a ride, positioned by my hats... just to configure with my playing style. Before I would get another crash, have you looked into Chinas? I love adding that trashy sound into my music. Good investment... IMO go with Zildjian's ZXT Trashformer. Talk about trashy... that shit looks like garbage!! LOL.

Ooo.. that's a tough one. I'm not sure how the 20" crash sounds. Bigger is better.

Everyones too scared of experimenting I guess.

LOL! I wouldn't say that. My experiences with 20"+ crashes weren't all that great. Only had a few good ones out there. The crash size for me ranges from 16"-18". I'm not one for super overtones.

tip #1 - go to a music store nearest you, and hit each crash... pick the sound you like best. :P

I was just kidding about the bigger is better. Heh.

Everyone here just seems so set on "a ride is a ride, a crash is a crash." I like bigger crashes for the most part. Then again, I'm playing very loud, heavy music. I like my crashes, well "crashes", to ring through the music. It's all subjective.. so whatever floats your boat.

End.. since you already have the K, a darker cymbal, I do believe that the Sweet ride might not suit you. It's a pretty bright sounding cymbal.. I'm not sure how it would match up with the darker K. I don't know.. just head on over to the store and hit lots of cymbals.. you'll find what you need. Bring your K along too if need be. I'm not sure how you'd work it out with the store.. but you could.
