Does anyone know if you can easily bypass the 610 pre on the LA-610 to just use the LA2A?

I have a 6176 and it is already set up for such an action however the LA-610 is not and even if I have to do a little surgery I might go for it.

I would imagine they did this purposely to preventing cheep skates like me from not buying the LA2A but come on...Am I smoking crack here or could this be great!- you get a 610 pre and an LA2A for, in some cases, Half the price of an LA2A?

Nope that dog don't hunt. That is one of the biggest complaints about that box.

I was looking at the 6176, how do you like it?

I don't have any "high-end" pre's or compressors, and that looks like one way to get a decent tracking channel for a semi-reasonable price...

What do you use it on, mostly?

I love the 6176 for what it is. For the money both the 610 and 1176 work extremely well. Having 2 legendary units in one box that can be accessed separately is great. I use it on Vocals and Guitars mostly. It can tend to be a little "bittey" on the distortion if you push it though. The problem is I tracked in another studio on my last project and had a Brent Averill 1073 pre and an LA2A and let me tell you..I have never had such amazing tone especially out of the Bass Guitar. If you plug a P-bass into a Fultone Fat Boost and then through 1073 and LA2A. OH MY!!!!!!!!!! Plus I ran Vocals through a C12 and the 1073/LA2A and it was great as well. I Actually wouldn't think twice about moving from the 6170 to that set up except for my recent experience and then finding out UA has the LA-610 out. But until someone figures out how to crack it I will be lusting for now.

I believe you can bypass the pre by going line in xlr on the back panel. That way you are only using the t4 comp. I believe the problem is you can't use the pre at the same time like the 76....It's not really 2 seperate units.

I believe the T4 is missing the input amplifier stage of the La2A.Which make quite a difference in sound..However I do really like the T4 comp in the la-610 very transparent and usefull...edit to the above....When going into the line in you are also accessing the EQ stage in the LA-610 so its not truly straight in to the comp.

I do not think this is the case since the comp in the la610 is NOT an La2a. It is based on one, but isn't one...
