Ive been recording a lot of metal bands lately and I was thinking about trying triggers for the kick to help out with all the crazy double bass parts. Can you do that with cubase sx? If you can, whats the best way to go about doing that? And finally whats a good trigger to get? Thanks guys!

To trigger a drum, you will need a drum trigger and a unit that converts the audio picked up by the trigger to midi information. If you're only going to trigger the kick, you could use drumagog and a cheapo microphone.

I am equally curious of this method. Couldn't you just take your kick track and make a copy of it and place a sampled kick into the places of the hits on the copied track and then blend the two together?

Get the good D-Drum triggers then just use a mic cable to plug it into your board/interface/whatever just like a mic. Record that signal (it will sound bad) and use that to trigger Drumagog. I do it all the time.

YOu can record drum triggers to anything that records audio.

theres a free plugin called soundreplacer that can take tracks and replace them using a threshold

Sound replacer is not free and only works with Protools.
