Looks like a D12 except for the handle. It's missing a logo, as there is a glue rectangle on the mic and no logo. Other than CANNON on the XLR plug the only marking is MADE IN AUSTRIA on the gray plastic ring that seperates the top halves. It's got an on/off switch.

thanks

If it says made in Austria, it's probably a D12 prototype.

Hmm... didn't D12s originally have the mic lead hard-wired to the mic?

Me thinks this could well be an aftermarket conversion to add an XLR jack. Can you see a hole somewhere around the underside of the grill where a mic cable could have originally gone in?

no hole. here are a couple of extra pictures of it next to a D12 - in these pictures the D12 looks smaller but it's an optical illusion. The grills are of identical size and shape.

Never seen it, the longer shaft mey be because of the switch, but to be sure you'll have to look inside.

D12E

I believe the D12 was originally a vocal/speech microphone (Harvey?) but it becam the 'standard' kick mic. IMHO it's a great kick mic, I have two D12E's, but recently I was out of condensers in a huge choir/jazzband recording, so I put a D12E on upright bass and guess what, a very nice sound and minimal bleed. This 35 persons (gospel)choir were recording together with the pretty loud jazz (old style) band in the same room.

I knew the D12 is a nice mic, but this really amazed me.

interestingly the four holes for the screws beneath the grille seem to be cast plastic, yet there are screws beneath the "plugs". I was able to pry open one of the grills from the top and the innards look very similar to the picture above, but the shape of the end of round contraption is different

Chance, this is the D-12JH. The John Holmes edition.
And don't worry about the length of your handle,
as long as you know what to do with it.

It took a while to sink in, (it's been years), but I think Bill was fun'in with me.

I think I found it.. an Echolette ED12/200.

I had thought of Echolette when I saw the size and position of the missing logo, but all the ones I'd seen were silver/gold with a black frame.

The shaft may very well be an aftermarket XLR conversion, but that does not explain why there's no hole in the grille for the lead!
