I believe this is possible, but I am confused with with the MTC/SMPTE Midi clock stuff. Which program should be master/slave? What I want to do is use sonar for my midi and I am trying out Sound Forge (I am using the demo version) for the audio stuff. I have a Pocket Express Midi Flyer for my midi interface as well. Can anybody help?

Thanks,
Vice

If you are using Sonar as the MASTER what do you want Sound Forge to do?

In other words what exactly are you trying to accomplish?

:)

You said you want to sync SF with Sonar, but what is SF running and why?

:)

I want SF to record the midi tracks as audio. I want Sonar to play back the midi tracks and have SF record the tracks as audio. When I press play in Sonar I want SF to start recording. Or when I press record in SF I want Sonar to start playing back midi files. I want to also try get a handle on this MTC/SMPTE stuff...

Thanks,

Why not just record the MIDI tracks to audio within SONAR? It's much, much easier than what you are trying to do.

True that would be easier, I realize that. I just want to try it. Plus, I seem to have trouble with sonar when it comes to audio. I also want to learn more about the MTC/SMPTE/MIDI word clock, etc... I am trying now to get all my midi devices in sync with each other.

It would be easier to do it within Sonar, like Alchuck said. ;)

Plus, to record the midi tracks as audio (from Sonar to SF) you don't need to sync them.

But....

This is how you do it (sync Sonar n SF).

I am not in the studio, at the moment, but this is, in a paraphrased manner, what you need to do.

Setup Sonar to generate MTC or MIDI Clock.

Setup SF to INPUT sync/trigger (OPTIONS>MIDI Input Sync/Trigger).

I appreciate the help... I will try that. The reason why I am trying out Sound Forge is because whenever I apply effects in sonar I get this weird popping sounds. When I put the same effect on a track in SF then save it as wav file, import the track back into Sonar, the pops are gone.

Or you could convert your MIDI files into a WAV. file while in Sonar, then export it (the wave file) to SF to apply the effects.

I think that's what I have to do... I can't get the sync thing to work. SF seems like it is really involved. It's just the demo version anyway. Whenever I used an SF effect in Sonar the clicks would show up - I believe that's because I am using the demo version of SF. I appreciate the help, Spin...

Let me know the outcome if it does/doesn't work.

npsi (I'm a liittle inembriated (sp?) ) ;) :D

I couldn't get it to work... I am going to put it down for awhile. I am just going to concentrate on getting Sonar to do everything. I did like some of SF plugs better than Sonar's, though. I am going to try again next week. Thanks for your help!

I don't see why this will not work for you.

Hopefully we will be able to figure this out for ya'. :(

p.s. I guess i was a little "drunk" on my last post. I spelled "inebriated" wrong, and I spelled my name wrong. :D
