I'm tired of using bass samples and layering it in a sampler, plus I can never find a decent sample to work with and it's not as smooth transition between samples rather then using a real instrument. So I'm looking for a bas guitar that is used mostly for house music. Can someone please go to http://www.ueberschall.com/ under the sample CD House Essential listen to the demo. Can anyone tell me what brand/model bass guitar is used during these vocals in the demo track:

Vocals go:

1) "A night to remember"

2) "Right now jump, jump"

3) "Flamingo Hotel"

I emailed the company as well, but no response at all.

thats a hard question to answer... i have a custom p-bass, it can sound like a stock fender, or a mm sterling, its hard to tell what brand/model it is form sound, now pictures thats dif. but even instruments from the same factory same brand, same model, can still sound dif, a dif. cut of wood, dif. people making them. so this question is basically a waste. i doubt anyone can aswer it with the info given, but u might wanna try over a TalkBass.com just for fun, they are some smart guys and might help a lil well, good luck

IMO you can make any bass sound like that. Squash the signal with a compressor, add maxxbass type plug. It's 90% certain a keyboard, like an old analog synth.

And sounds don't mean nothing. I was able to convince some people of playing a vintage P-bass... while I actually played a 2001 boutique 6 string in passive mode on the neck pickup through a serious channel strip+compressor..

With all due respect itsa like asking you to tell me what I have for dinner last night by the smell of my farts!

Modern amp simulation has made vintage sounds available to all, which is both good and bad.

So far I go these three on my gues list form other people:

Gibson SG BAss

Fender Jazz Bass

Hofner Bass

Does anyone know any links where i can listen to some samples of these models?

I don't think you're getting the point here...

The brand of the bass IS NOT the defining factor. I'm really, really sure that if you play on a Jazz it will sound different than when I play on it... It's a combination of player, instrument, cable, strings, age of strings, technique, recording engineer, air humidity, whatever the bass player had for lunch that day, etc...

But my guess is still that it's keyboards, not a bass guitar.

No you're not getting the point, why is it always on this forum some one tries to be a smart ass. I'm trying to get the closest sound possible to the one I heard, I do realize that it's a slim chance that someone will guess dead on what bass is used, but at least don't try to through me off into different direction. If you don't know or can't help, then don't bother responding at all. If you didn't realize from my original post for me less is more, meaning I don't like to apply much compression or any other processing, cause it kills the dynamics of the sound, unless I'm trying to go for a specific effect. I do realize that most of the time the bass you hear in House music is filtered or processed, that's why I'm trying to get more original and then add filters and compression just to see the other side of it. Any other guesses out there please share.

im with the guys on this one....

any bass can be made to sound like.....

or it could be an all vintage set up. who knows, did you try getting in contact with the guy who recorded it? or did you try playing around with different settings that you think could make it sound like it?

to me its a p-bass....but then again, so are all bass's....

Rubo4: I was not trying to sound like some smartass, nor was it my intention to sound denigrating to you.
It's just that I happen to play bass for a living and that I have some experience in listening to bass sounds.
If I can find the time next week I'll try to record you some examples if you want to.
And I'm afraid compression is a nr1 tool used in electronic music, using the kick channel as key to make it more punchy etc..

Poet - what's cool. What model are you gonna record. I'm also gonna check out Trilogy and PlugSound stuff. Since I don't have a hardware compressor, I stay away from softcomp - cause I haven't heard one that has a decent sound - digital compressors are all to thing and have no character- well to my ears through K+H O-198 speakers, maybe someone here hears different.
