I am very new to this recording business and I just bought a bunch of gear to get started. I will outline the gear I have, and HOPEFULLY one of you veterans on here can set me in the right direction as needed. Pleazzzz!!! I want to use it to record demos for my 6 piece rock band.

Anyway,,,I bought 7 ADAT LX machines (in a package deal) I use a 32x8 Ch Behringer MX mixing console (soon to be replaced with a 32x8 Mackie for Direct Outs on each channel) I also have a 16 Channel Mackie mixer, a ton of compressors, EQ's effects units etc (I am ok on the wiring of the effects units and compressors) then I also have an Alesis Studio monitor amp and a pair of close reference monitors. And then of course my computer.

Heres the set up....

I run all channels into the 32MX Behringer,,,,,,then use the "insert" jacks and run 1/4TS (only plugged in 1 click) to the RCA inputs of the ADATS. (I am only using 16 channels which is enough,,,the other ADATS just sit there and look cool :D ) then, I run out of the Adats wth a snake over to the 16 Ch Mackie which I wanted to use for the Mixdown mixer(instead of repatching the Behringer every time,,,, this will be eliminated as soon as I can find a 32x8 or even a 24/8 Mackie at a reasonable price) Then (HERE IS WHERE I HAVE PROBLEMS) I run out of the 2 main outputs of the 16 ch Mackie and over into a Delta 44 Breakout box, Then out of that into my computer (using the Delta 44 Sound Card that came with). Everything seems to be installed correctly for that part because in the Delta 44 computer control panel when music is playing, it shows on the computer screen LEDs.

Now..I have installed in the computer both Cool Edit (one of the newer versions) and also Cubase (SE or LE I forget) Anyway, I can not get any of those programs to record the music comming in? They show the Delta 44 PCI card as the device input card, but when I try to record I dont get signal in the software program>?>?

All I am trying to do is simply take whatever I have on the Adats,,,run them thru the 16 Mackie for mixdown,,,then into the computer so I can burn them onto CD using my computers CD Burner. I dont really plan to do any editing by way of computer or music software at this time..I JUST WANT TO SIMPLY RECORD what I have on CD's. (which isnt so "simply" at this point...lol)

OK Pros.....please help this newB out. :D I KNOW there has to be a better and easier way to do all this>?>?>?

Thanks folks and the more replies the better as I am way into this learnig process (I just read about 8 books on recording, and now they are all starting to look and sound the same...lol I need to hear from the real deals)

Peace

Sell some ADATs and get a soundcard or two that will handle that many inputs, like an RME Fireface. It'll make your life much simpler.
