afternoon all. title pretty much sums it up. i love to rhyme, put lyrics together, etc... but just don't know the first thing about actual production or making music...

anybody know where to begin with this? i would like to see if maybe i could collaborate with somebody in the business and go from there... i've always wanted to just make music and share it...

any advice/info/suggestions would be great...

maybe if i rhymed into my webcam and posted it on youtube i could find somebody to collab with? :D

thanks in advance...

What exactly are you looking for?

Are you looking to learn how to do it (record, make beats, put it all together) all on your own?
Are you looking to have a producer to do most of the work for you in their studio?
Are you looking to just collab and network with people who have all kinds of different aspects of the game?

Help us out here.

1. Go Buy an instrumental/beat from somewhere

2. Go to your local recording studio and check out their session rates.

3. Recording is an art form. You'll need to pick up some books if you want something done yourself.

Well, I tried to... bought an SM57, a mixer and a soundcard (EMU-0404) but could never put it together... used Adobe Audition and I was just overwhelmed...

But yeah, I feel that my talent lies in laying down tracks, not beatmaking or recording... and would like to focus myself there than anywhere else...

It would be great to collab and network with people as well, I guess I just don't know where to begin... it is intimidating no doubt and I'm not looking to make it big or anything, I just enjoy hip-hop and feel like I could contribute something to it...

Thanks. Any idea where to buy instrumentals/beats from?

There are a lot of people that have home studios in Dallas that probably won't charge you too much.

What you're needing is someone who has a in home studio.

Here's my best advice for you.

1.) I would buy beats off the net. Top recommendations are beats365.com, wyshmaster.com, and rockitproductions.com (simply because you can pay one price and access hundreds of beats...just know that many people on those sites may have the same beats)

2.) Find a local guy with a home studio (preferably one who charges by the song) and see if he will take your beat you bought off one of those sites and record your vocals on them. Of course, a guy with a home studio will probably make beats for you too, but you may or may not like his style (or prices for each beat). By the way, I used to know a guy in Dallas who did it this way. His name was Greg Mason and he lives in the Lancaster area. Look him up on 411.com, he's in there.

3.) If you happen to find one that charges by the hour....PRACTICE your lyrics before you walk in that studio and don't leave until you get it sounding the way you want it to.

Edit: By the way, what kind of style do you rap? Might be some people on here who might be willing to help you out if you drop their name in the songs somewhere (a lil promotion goes a LOOOOONNNGGG way sometimes).

Fiev.

and many of engineers will thank you for recognizing that...there are way too many people trying to do everything on their own when the should leave the beat making and recording to others
