Can phantom power dammage inputs?

Hi

It seems like I just blew up something on my Tascam US 224's input circuits.

The soundcard had it's trim pots set to max, and had an external phantom power supply attached. I then connected my Rode NT 1 mike to the "hot" phantom power cable, and since then I have had no input signal on my XLR or line inputs.

Can anyone explain to me what might have gone wrong, and how to avoid it in future?

Thanks

It's kind of a bad idea to connect up phantom powered mics when the power is on. You may have possibly damaged the power supply (I doubt that it harmed the mic but that's possible too). You should connect powered mics with the power off.
