I just purchased a M-Audio firewire 410. I have n-track (I may be switching that eventually but that's what i have for right now). Anyways my problem is that I have gotten so that I can record now, however, whenI do record (just one track--vocals through the firewire into the PCMCIA to firewire adapter) the program either only records lik 2 seconds or else it freezes and wont do anything. Anyone have ideas how to fix this? I have tried lowering the sample rate but that doesn't seem to work.

thanks

I'm not familiar with the M410, Mike. Have you posted at the N-Track forum to see if anyone else has that particular device and might be able to help you?

You say you've gotten it to record. Does that imply that you had difficulties with the install? I'm wondering if Windows is correctly recognizing the 410. And N? Have you correctly configured N to recognize the 410?

Give us a bit more info. Have you had N working with another card? Are you using the WDM drivers? ASIO? Surely not MME, right? Which OS? Can you play thru the device using other software?

Hey thanks for your reply. I did post this on the n-track forum but decided to post here just to get a few responses. Some more info about my stuff. I am running XP. The install I think worked fine. To be sure I reinstalled both the soundcard (with drivers) and n-track. Windows does recognize the 410 (it is listed in the device manager). It even says it is working properly. N track recognizes the Firewire 410 too (I set it up in the audio set up thing within N-track). I am using only the WDM drivers. I can't use the ASIO drivers at the same time though cuz it gives me an error message (which says you can't use both WDM and ASIO simultaneously). But N-track recognizes it because before I try and record the monitor is showing the levels of the mic plugged into the 410. One problem though is that sometimes the monitors stop working and I need to go reset them in the audio settings menu of n-track (this might be the same problem).
But theproblem is when I record, it either only records 2 seconds or so, then stops and will play back those 2 seconds fine. Otherwise I push record and when I press stop to stop recording the program freezes and I have to reboot.

I have had n-track working previously just fine with the soundcard that was in my lap top already. I haven't tried recording with other software because I don't have any installed right now. But i have a copy of soundforge somewhere so I will try that out.

Anyways thanks for the help.

Hmm... And you've selected the right device within the LEDs? Click the Settings icon on the Recording LED and make sure. Then do the same on the Playback LED.

Then you started using the M410, did you disable the onboard card? i'm wondering if you have a conflict between the two devices.

It would be good to find someone else who has used the M410 to be sure it actually works with N. But, frankly, I've been using N (and hanging at the N forum) for 5 yrs, and I've never actually heard of a card that doesn't work with N.

I'm running out of ideas, bud.

Hey thanks again for the help. I have tried all that, what I think is happening is that N-track stops recognizing the firewire after a while which is probably because of the PCMCIA firewire adapter I am using. I think I will have to buy a new one. Anyways Im sure the problem isnt from n-tracks end because it does the exact same thing in sound forge.
Thanks for your help

Ahhhh.. then yes, it sounds like a device issue. Hope you get it worked out.
