Can anyone put this in normal terms?

"In addition, although Mbox 2 is limited to two simultaneous analog input sources, it also includes digital S/PDIF IO. Using both the analog and digital inputs simultaneously, Mbox 2 can serve as a four in/two out interface. One way to do this is by connecting a third-party mic preamp with S/PDIF outputs to Mbox 2's S/PDIF inputs, for vocals or instrument tracks. This configuration allows two other sources to be plugged directly into Mbox 2's analog inputs. Once the audio is recorded, multiple tracks can be mixed down in Pro Tools LE for stereo output (Mbox 2's S/PDIF outputs carry the same signal as the analog outputs)."

I have a 4 track with drums recorded on it. i would LOVE to put 4 seperate tracks of drums into protools. According to this, i can do it.

HOW?

:)  :p ;) :D   :(

OK, I don't use an Mbox, but here's a rough translation from the techese. You take your two regular inputs on the box, and plug in two sources. Then you take a seperate mic pre that has digital outputs, the RCA jack looking ones, and plug two more sources into it's inputs, then plug it's digital output into the digital input of your box. Voila, four inputs that you can mix in the computer.

At least, that's what I get. Hope this helps!

Yup. What he said. And the major reason I wish I had an Mbox 2 instead of the original one. But I also have a 002, so can't justify upgrading my big blue dongle.

Do you know of any mic pres that have digital outputs?

Samson C-Valve. Sounds like an outboard lowish end pre... better than the Tube pre IMO though.

ART-DPSII, ART digital MPA (DMPA), API has one for $1500??? or something like that.

Or you can go analog out of a preamp into a cheap multi fx unit like the tc electronic 300, then go digital out of that into the mbox.

what if i used a spdif cable from my old mbox 1 into the spdif on the mbox 2?

Would that enable me to use the focusrite pres on the mbox 1, and the pres on the mbox 2?

thank you guys, by the way, for all the killer info.
