i have a fostex FD-4 digital multitracker, and i want to mic up drums and guitar at once. Does anyone know a way i can mic both instruments, that are in the same room, with out having the sound from one instrument bleed into the other instruments mic? i have tried putting the guitar amp in the corner and micing it than covering it with a sleeping bag but it still bleeds into the other mic. we dont want to record each track seperate but we might have to if we cant figure out how to mic two at once with out bleeding into other mics.

Some bleed is inevitable.... 2 acoustic sources in the space will bleed, period.

Use overdubbing or move the guitar amp to another room altogether if you need to isolate the track completely.

ok, thats what i was thinking. moving it to another room. but like you said, i guess there is no way to completely stop the bleeding if its in the same room.

thanks for the input man

If you put the guitar amp in another room you can still use a large cable so the guitarist can be in the same room as the drummer. Seems obvious.
Some will say that using a longer cable will attract more unwanted noise, but i have yet to experience this with the 20 foot cables i use.
Doing this though you do need headphones and a decent headphone mix (or two)

You could use the line out from the amp to the recorder to keep the drums off the guitar track but as long as the amp is in the same room with the drums you will get some bleed over. This may not be noticed in the final mix and might not be a problem if you can keep the bleed over from the guitar to a minimum. I guess it depends on how clean you want to keep your individual tracks. If you really want to seperate the tracks you will need to seperate your recording spaces or record each track independently.
