This always makes me wonder... how did the smoke get on the water? Is the water on fire?

Dr. V

it was in direct correlation to the fire in the sky. when a heat source of that magnitude is close to the water it causes evaporation which can escape in the form of steam... so more accurately, it should be called 'steam from the water'.

sik-a sak-a sik-a sak-a sik-a sak-a sik-a sak-a... (that's the high hats hummed in type) :)

Heh... actually, I looked it up after I posted that. The song was inspired by the writer after Deep Purple, whilst on tour, a casino they were in burned down. The band managed to escape through a window overlooking a lake and I think there was a boat involved.

When he looked back on it, (Blackmore? Gillian?) was thinking of smoke coming across the water towards the shoreline.

I just looked up the lyrics and realised I didn't need to recite any of that, as the story is right there in the words.

And yes, I can play the basic chorus riff on a bass guitar... I can also do Geddy Lee's bassline to 2001 (Temples Of Syrinx)... a few Fleetwood Mac bits and of course... Black Sabbath's Paranoid. Some of those old Soul / motown basslines among the black artists of the 70's are more of a challenge, which is why that music fascinates me so much.

Oh - I thought it was a real piano roll and you were trying to punch holes in paper. :D

You don't say in what country you are - but the expert in the UK would be the curator of The Musical Museum near Kew Bridge in London.

I was there this weekend and an excellent place to visit if you like Wurlitzer Organs and player pianos.

yes... the 70's are usually where i fall back to find music i really fall in love with. (i was born in 1976 so it's not because it's the music i grew up with or anything)... anyways, if you like that stuff, here's something that'll make you smile if you haven't already heard or seen it...

(melotron at 4:15... always my favorite part.)

:D

Gabriel was always amazing with those costumes. It's a rarer thing today. I am a lover of theatricality in music. Today, I fear there is some kind of clone factory going on. It's not even as exciting as men standing around in suits, singing about a house of ill repute (rising sun).

Thanks for the link!
